GD&PI Preparation

Business school said YES! Now it’s time to prepare wisely.

Soon after you have submitted your form, the common question arises in your mind: ‘What to do after MBA acceptance?’ Hard work pays off when you finally hear back from the business schools after months of enduring the preparations. It’s exciting and distressing at the same time because even after you get accepted, the real struggle begins when you look for the possible scenarios. It’s important to analyze whether the program you have selected meets your desires, goals, personal needs, and interests. Although the MBA acceptance checklist is huge and unpredictable, we can put some questions in your mind that can help you move forward.

Let’s talk about the steps after getting into business school, starting with the basic questions that occur in the heads of aspirants.

What is the timeframe to hear back from the business school?

Nervous anticipation is natural while you wait for the callback, but you should be aware of when you are going to hear back even if you have applied the earliest. It is natural to expect within two to three months from the time it was submitted because the business schools take time to review the application.

After you get accepted, is this the right one for you?

Before preparing for business school after admission, think about what your gut says. In situations like this, you have to trust your gut to make sure that the interests that the business school is providing are something you want for yourself. For validation and confidence, you must talk with your teachers, mentors, alumni, and the seniors. Keep your financial situation in mind because you need an assurance that you can afford the MBA program. Once you have analyzed all the factors, you can say yes and get committed to the graduate business school. It might sound easy, but it needs a lot of thinking and commitment. Next steps after B-school acceptance are up to you if all the doubts regarding that are cleared in your head.

What if several schools have accepted your application?

Keep your priority list with pros and cons ready. Even if numerous schools have accepted your application, think about why they have shortlisted you in the first place. Narrow down your choices by taking advice from your mentors and teacher; if necessary, visit your school and talk to the current students.

Can you postpone enrollment?

The clear answer will be NO. Usually the schools consider deferral for certain serious situations like illness, family crisis, new promotion or opportunity, failure at visa papers (for education in foreign land), or military deployments. If that’s not the case, it might not get considered.

What if you are wait-listed?

If you find yourself in situations like this, contact the school authority for further procedures. Ask them if you need to submit additional documents or information or if there is something that can strengthen your application.

Even then, if you are not considered and waved off the waitlist, instead of feeling devastated and disappointed, take some positive steps for reconsideration chances the next year. Reach out to the school and ensure you take the proper feedback on why you were not considered. Make sure to gain experience during the year in economics, calculus, or similar subjects and demonstrate your aptitude course. If you feel the need, retake the GMAT exam to improve scores more than before, and if you are an international student and English is not your native tongue, improve your communication skills as well.

What if you are denied admission?

If you are thinking of applying to the same school, make changes in your application since clearly the first one didn’t work for you. Determine the factors you lack by taking proper feedback. Take an honest review of your assessments.

Why is business school still worth it?

Remember why you decided to go to the business school in the first place. Don’t forget the reason and move ahead with ten times better preparation, hard hardwork and awareness. A small drawback cannot decide your fate. To take big leaps, small stepbacks are natural. Explore the new study trends and make yourself confident to achieve what you deserve.

Final Thoughts

Dreams are not putting yourself in the top just in your head with open eyes. Dreams are achieving the position you have put efforts into since childhood. Make the right move and don’t let your focus shift in some other direction. Keep the hard work going and believe in yourself. Some get success sooner, and some get it with time. But eventually, if you work hard, it will be yours.
