Synopsis:  While artificial intelligence is increasingly embedded in Indian business schools, a recent survey of faculty shows a striking gap. Only 7 percent consider themselves AI experts, even as over half believe AI will positively influence student learning. Concerns over ethics, accuracy, and lack of policy frameworks hamper deeper adoption.

As the AI revolution reshapes industries, Indian business schools (B-schools) are under mounting pressure to integrate artificial intelligence into management education. Although many institutions have adopted AI tools, faculty readiness and internal alignment remain a challenge.

A survey by MBAUniverse.com, sampling 235 faculty members from leading B-schools across India, reveals a mixed landscape:

  • 51 percent see AI’s impact on student learning as positive
  • 21 percent remain unsure
  • 18 percent view it unfavorably
  • Only 7 percent identify as AI experts
  • 55 percent consider themselves intermediate users of AI tools

Most AI usage currently centers on research and classroom applications; fewer schools integrate AI into curriculum design, administration, or assessments. Tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Perplexity are among the most commonly used, while tools like Meta AI lag behind in relevance.

Key Barriers and Institutional Gaps

Despite optimistic views about AI’s promise, faculty cite several impediments:

  • Ethical and academic integrity concerns
  • Risk of inaccurate outputs
  • Lack of formal frameworks or guidelines
  • Insufficient training and capacity-building

These limitations contribute to cautious adoption. Some institutions have responded creatively: for instance, the SP Jain School of Global Management developed an AI-Enabled Learning Tutor (AI-ELT). This system provides personalized learning support and helps both students and faculty handle AI more effectively.

The Road Ahead

To close the gap between intention and execution, B-schools must prioritize:

  1. Faculty training and upskilling in AI tools and pedagogy
  2. Clear policies and ethical frameworks governing AI use
  3. Curriculum redesign that embeds AI across functional domains
  4. Experimentation with AI-enabled tools in assessment and administration
  5. Institutional strategy and leadership buy-in to drive transformation

The moment is ripe, as business contexts rapidly evolve, B-schools risk falling behind unless they align academic models with the realities of AI-driven industries. For these institutes to remain relevant, the shift must move beyond experimentation to systematic adoption.

The question is no longer if AI will influence management education, but how effectively B-schools can harness it.
