SVKMs NMIMS is set to begin the second stage of its MBA admission process for the 2026 batch from January 31, marking the start of the Competency Assessment and Personal Interview (CAPI) round. Candidates who have been shortlisted based on their NMAT scores will participate in this crucial stage at the NMIMS Mumbai campus. The CAPI round plays a decisive role in final admissions, as the Competency Assessment alone accounts for 60 per cent weightage in the preparation of the final merit list.

Based on feedback and experiences shared by candidates from previous admission cycles, the CAPI process is structured to be completed within a single day for each applicant. Upon reaching the campus, candidates are required to deposit their mobile phones and bags at designated counters. Identity verification is conducted using the interview call letter and a valid photo ID proof. After verification, candidates are grouped and guided to specific venues for the Competency Assessment and Personal Interview.

The CAPI process is centrally managed and conducted only at the NMIMS Mumbai campus, making physical presence mandatory for all shortlisted candidates. Once formalities are completed, candidates proceed to the Competency Assessment (CA), followed by the Personal Interview (PI). The structured flow ensures smooth coordination and timely completion of both assessment stages.
The NMIMS Competency Test 2026 is expected to consist of 30 multiple-choice questions, to be solved within a 45-minute duration. The test evaluates candidates across four key areas essential for management education.

The expected sectional distribution is as follows:
Candidates from previous years described the overall difficulty level of the test as easy to moderate. Several aspirants were able to complete the assessment in under 30 minutes, although some found certain sections challenging. The wide variation in experiences indicates that while the paper may appear manageable, strong conceptual clarity and quick decision-making remain essential.
One of the distinctive features of the NMIMS admission process is its AI-assisted Personal Interview, introduced in earlier admission cycles and expected to continue this year. The interview process typically lasts between 12 and 20 minutes and includes both AI-driven interaction and panel-led questioning.
During the AI interaction, questions are generated based on the candidate’s Statement of Purpose (SOP) and resume. As candidates respond, their answers are transcribed live on the screen. Applicants are allowed a brief opportunity to edit their responses before final submission, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
While the AI initiates the interaction, it does not ask follow-up questions. The subsequent discussion is handled by the interview panel, which may probe deeper into the candidate’s responses, professional background, academic interests, or personal profile. Panel members often build their questions based on AI prompts or specific details mentioned by the candidate.
For non-freshers, interview questions largely revolve around work experience, job roles, industry exposure, and managerial learnings. Candidates are expected to demonstrate clarity of thought, leadership potential, and awareness of their professional domain.
For freshers, the panel generally focuses on questions such as “Why MBA?”, academic background, career goals, and current affairs. Topics related to recent geopolitical and technological developments are commonly discussed. Candidates may also be asked about global economic trends, including issues such as US tariffs, geopolitical economic conflicts, and strategies influencing global economic dominance.
Additionally, interviewers often pick questions from hobbies or extracurricular interests mentioned in the SOP, making it essential for candidates to be thoroughly familiar with every detail they have submitted.

Candidates appearing for the NMIMS CAPI round must carry the following essentials:
Applicants are strongly advised to revise their SOP and resume before attending the interview, as the AI-assisted questions are directly linked to the information provided during the slot booking and application process.
With the Competency Assessment holding the highest weightage, performance in Stage 2 will significantly influence final admission decisions. As NMIMS begins the CAPI process from January 31, shortlisted candidates should ensure they are well-prepared, informed, and confident to navigate this decisive phase of the MBA admission journey.
