| Synopsis: Selective IITs now offer a dual-degree pathway allowing students to earn a BTech and MBA without taking CAT. Admission begins through JEE Advanced, and students who maintain a strong CPI/CGPA can directly transition into partner IIMs. IIT Patna, IIT Jammu, and IIT Dhanbad currently offer this streamlined engineering-to-management route. |

Students aiming to pursue both engineering and management now have a unique pathway that combines a BTech from an IIT and an MBA from an IIM—without appearing for the CAT exam. Several IITs, in collaboration with partner IIMs, offer integrated dual-degree programmes that allow students to transition directly from BTech to MBA based on academic performance.
For aspirants completing their 12th and planning for BTech, this offers a streamlined route to achieve an MBA. Admission starts with qualifying the JEE Advanced to secure a seat in a participating IIT. During the BTech programme, students must maintain a strong academic record; those meeting the minimum CPI/CGPA requirement of 7.5 become eligible for direct entry into the MBA programme at the partnered IIM after completing either seven or eight semesters.
Institutes offering this dual-degree pathway include:
At IIT Patna, students can opt for MBA admission after semester four or six, provided they meet the CPI cutoff. At IIT Dhanbad, students maintaining a CGPA above 7.5 after the second semester and completing 12 management foundation courses from semester three to seven can proceed to IIM Mumbai in their eighth semester, completing the five-year integrated programme. In this collaboration, the BTech degree is awarded by the IIT, while the MBA degree is jointly conferred by the IIT and IIM, offering a holistic blend of technical and managerial education.
