Overview
CAT 2024 result is expected soon. IIM Calcutta has not shared the CAT 2024 result date but it is expected that the scorecards will be released soon at the iimcat.ac.in website.
CAT exam 2024 was conducted by IIM Calcutta in three shifts at over 400 test centres in 170 cities across India. The CAT 2024 question paper this year was moderately difficult for all three slots. The total number of questions has been increased to 68. DILR had 22 questions instead of 20. There were no parajumbles in the paper. The number of sets in DILR section of CAT 2024 was 5.
The provisional CAT 2024 answer key was released on December 3 and the objection window was open till December 5, 2024. The CAT 2024 result will be prepared on the basis of objections raised and examination.

Result, Cut off & Accepting Institutions
CAT 2024 result can be expected soon.
Although, the official CAT 2024 notification mentions result announcement in the second week of January 2025, one can expect it to be released much earlier as it has been seen in the last two years that CAT result was announced within three weeks of the exam.
CAT 2024 exam was held on November 24, 2024. The CAT 2024 official answer key was released on November 29, 2024 and the objection management process ended on December 5, 2024. CAT 2024 result will be prepared after examination of all the objections received. This proess may take 10-15 days.
The result cum scorecard of CAT 2024 will be available for download at iimcat.ac.in website through login. Candidates will have to use their CAT 2024 login ID and password to check their result. The CAT 2024 scorecard will contain each candidate’s name, registration number, category, photo, sectional score, overall score, sectional percentile and overall percentile. CAT Cut Offs 2024 : Key Highlights
For admission to any IIM or top MBA colleges in India, the minimum CAT cut off is 90 percentile. CAT cut offs remain high (99+ percentile) for top IIMs such as IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode, every year. In Tier 2 MBA colleges, CAT cut offs are usually around 70-80 percentile and above and in Tier 3 MBA colleges the CAT cut offs are usually around 60-70 percentile and above. CAT 2024 cut offs are expected to be in the same range for these colleges. Based on the CAT 2024 analysis of Slot 1, experts have analysed that an overall score of 102 will convert into 99.9 percentile.
- Meeting the minimum CAT cut off is mandatory for candidates to be shortlisted for MBA admission.
- Candidates have to meet CAT sectional cut off too for selection to WAT-PI round of MBA colleges.
- CAT cut offs for top IIMs usually range from 98 to 100 percentile for General category students.
- For reserved category students the IIM cut offs are slightly lower around 95 to 98 percentile.
- The CAT cut offs for admission to top MBA colleges such as FMS, MDI, SPJIMR among others, range from 90 to 99 percentile.
- There are two types of CAT cut offs for IIM admission – qualifying cut off and final cut off.
- Qualifying IIM CAT cut off is announced before CAT result declaration and the final CAT cut off is declared at the time of PI shortlisting.
- The IIMs do not release final CAT cut offs publicly. They are accessible through account login to only those candidates who appear in the CAT exam.
- Other institutes accepting CAT exam score for admission too, fix a minimum cut off to shortlist candidates for admission.

Question Paper
CAT 2024 question paper was of moderate difficulty level. The CAT question paper 2024 had 3 sections – VARC, DILR and Quantitative Ability. The VARC section had 24 questions in MCQ format, the DILR section had 22 questions (2 questions extra) in MCQ format and Quantitative Aptitude section had 22 questions in both MCQ and non-MCQ format.

Section wise break up CAT 2024 question paper
- VARC: The Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension section of CAT 2024 had 16 RC based questions and there were no parajumbles. Rest of th questions were on parasummary, paracompletion and odd sentence.
- DILR: In the DILR section, there were 5 sets. Most of the questions were be in sets of 3-4. The total number of questions were 22, but most of them were doable.
- Quantitative Aptitude: This section of CAT 2024 had 8-10 questions from Arithmetic. 8-10 questions can be asked from Algebra. There will be 1-2 question each from rest of the topics.
