Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man and the Chairman of Reliance Industries, has an inspiring academic and professional journey that laid the foundation for his success. Before taking charge of one of India’s largest conglomerates, Ambani built a strong educational base in engineering and management.

Mukesh Ambani earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly UDCT), Mumbai. Later, he pursued an MBA at Stanford University in the United States. However, he left the programme midway to join his father, Dhirubhai Ambani, in expanding the family business, Reliance Industries. According to the company’s official records, Mukesh Ambani joined the Reliance Board in 1977, marking the beginning of his remarkable journey in the corporate world.

Interestingly, Mukesh Ambani was born in Yemen on April 19, 1957. His father, Dhirubhai Ambani, worked as a gas station attendant in Aden before moving the family to Mumbai in 1958. The Ambani family initially lived in a modest chawl in Bhuleshwar while Dhirubhai laid the foundation of Reliance Commercial Corporation, which would later grow into the Reliance empire.

Nita Ambani, Mukesh’s wife, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Narsee Monjee College, Mumbai, and is also a trained Bharatnatyam dancer who began her career as a school teacher.
